Job summary

Berger Health System is seeking a Technician Laboratory Analyst to perform phlebotomy and a range of technical and clerical tasks in the Laboratory across the campus. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, problem solving, communication, and personal excellence.

The position handles blood, tissue, urine, and other body fluids, supports LIS-related duties, and contributes to quality and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Previous clinical experience required.
  • Night shift.
  • 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • 70% phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on location.
  • Adherence to safety and infection control practices.
  • Customer service to clinicians and clients.
  • Professional telephone communication with physician offices and lab staff.
  • Communicate with patients and their families; use service recovery when necessary.
  • 15% LIS/e-Source or computer-related tasks.
  • 5% training new employees and students.
  • 5% regulatory compliance with NPSG, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH, and lab policies.
  • 5% maintaining competencies and required education (ACE).
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
  • As an HRO, focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.

Overview

The Technician Laboratory Analyst (TLA) demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and a variety of technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory based on the needs of the individual campus. They perform routine laboratory procedures according to established guidelines with customer focus, teamwork, adaptability to change, problem solving, communication, and personal excellence. The position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • 70% phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on job location.
  • Adherence to safety and infection control practices.
  • Customer service to clinicians and clients.
  • Comfortable and professional on the telephone, able to communicate with physician office staff, clinical staff, and laboratory associates.
  • Communicate with patients and their families, and use service recovery where necessary.
  • 15% associated computer related tasks (e.g. LIS, e-Source).
  • 5% training new employees and students.
  • 5% adherence to regulatory compliance including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH, and laboratory policies and procedures.
  • 5% maintaining competencies, mandatory required education (ACE).
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
  • As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
