Job summary

AeroVironment in Huntsville is seeking a Technical Editor to support proposal development by reviewing and refining written content for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and compliance. You will work with proposal managers, writers, and subject matter experts to produce persuasive, customer-focused materials that meet solicitation standards.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in English or related field, 8+ years of editing experience in DoD environments, and strong proficiency in MS

• 8+ years of editing experience, preferably in DoD proposal or technical environments.
• Strong editing, grammar and writing abilities.
• Proficiency in MS Word, PPT, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Attention to detail, organization, and time management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread proposal content for grammar, clarity, consistency, and compliance.
• Ensure materials follow solicitation instructions, evaluation criteria, and style guides.
• Collaborate with proposal teams to improve structure, flow, and readability.
• Verify data accuracy, terminology consistency, and formatting.
• Support color team reviews and integrate feedback into final versions.
• Maintain version control and ensure quality across volumes.

Summary

The Technical Editor supports proposal development by reviewing and refining written content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and compliance. This role works closely with proposal managers, writers, and subject matter experts to produce persuasive, customer-focused, and high-quality proposal materials that align with company and solicitation standards.

Position Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread proposal content for grammar, clarity, consistency, and compliance.
• Ensure all materials adhere to solicitation instructions, evaluation criteria, and company style guides.
• Collaborate with proposal teams to improve structure, flow, and readability.
• Verify data accuracy, terminology consistency, and proper document formatting.
• Support color team reviews (Pink, Red, Gold) and integrate feedback into final versions.
• Maintain version control and ensure quality and consistency across all volumes.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, or related field
• Experience: 8+ years of editing experience preferably in DoD proposal or technical environments.
• Strong editing, grammar and writing abilities
• Proficiency in MS Word, PPT, and Adobe Acrobat
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

• Experience editing government or corporate proposals (RFP/RFQ responses)
• Familiarity with AP or Chicago style and MS Teams and SharePoint.
• Knowledge of Shipley or similar proposal methodologies.
• TS Clearance

• Ability to work in an office environment (Constant)
• Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)

The salary range for this role is:

$80,500 - $123,000

ITAR Requirement

This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”).
