Job description

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Technical Director for our District of Columbia Bridge Inspection Group. This is a hybrid position, based out of our Washington D.C. and/or adjacent MD/VA offices. You will assist the Mid-Atlantic District's bridge inspection TEC Lead with business development and securing bridge inspection and repair projects for WMATA, DDOT, and other transportation agencies. You will utilize your education, licensure, and relevant experience to evaluate the condition, function, and load capacity of structures, forming the basis for repair, rehabilitation, or replacement recommendations.

Your Impact

1. Plan, schedule, and perform bridge inspections in accordance with specific Bridge Owner requirements, NBIS, and AASHTO standards.
2. Liaise with client staff and communicate critical condition findings.
3. Lead and assist field team members, enforce safety, and ensure compliance with standards.
4. Create and review inspection reports and support proposal and report preparation.
5. Support bridge, culvert, and ancillary inspections across jurisdictions.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
• 10+ years of bridge inspection experience with WMATA, DDOT, or similar clients
• Experience managing bridge inspection projects in DC, MD, VA, and other states
• Completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course
• Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and lead teams
• Physical capability for fieldwork, including heights and adverse weather
• Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
• Ability to supervise and manage time and budgets effectively

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional NHI training in fracture critical inspection and ancillary structures
• Experience with railroad and complex bridges, tunnels, and ancillary structures
• Certifications in NDT, UAS, rope access techniques

Compensation

Expected salary range: $149,200 - $300,410, depending on experience and location.
