Job summary

Wake Forest University is hiring for a hands-on event technician to coordinate and oversee campus events in Wait Chapel, Brendle Hall, and other venues. This role combines stage management with technical leadership for lighting, sound, and AV operations.

The position requires strong knowledge of theatre, troubleshooting, and experience leading sound/lighting teams. Physical duties include lifting up to 50 pounds and coordinating crew tasks across events.

Qualifications

  • Five-years professional experience required or bachelor’s degree in theatrical programming with one year’s experience.
  • Knowledge of theatre and stage direction.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience as a head of sound, lighting, or video department on tour or in an AV rental company, or as an assistant/technical director in a theatre.
  • If sound is their specialty, must name all cable types, microphones, wireless mics, understand RF, and have live sound mixing experience with EQ and compression.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate among event personnel, board operations, and stagehands for events.
  • Oversee execution of events from a technical standpoint (lighting, sound, AV, recording, stage management).
  • Collaborate with senior directors for larger events; operate independently for smaller ones.
  • Provide technical support for campus venues; consult with University event team for significant events.
  • Move and lift items up to 50 pounds; manage time sheets; prepare reports; supervise maintenance or other tasks as assigned.
  • Move musical instruments and stands.
