Technical Director, Environmental Engineer – PFAS Remediation SME (Director Level)

Position Overview

ERM is seeking a Technical Director to join our Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) technical team. In this role, you will provide technical strategy and project support on PFAS site investigation and remediation for clients across various regions. We are open to candidates in multiple US and Canadian locations.

This leadership position involves contributing your expertise, managing client relationships, and supporting business growth while collaborating with ERM’s global SIR team to share best practices. It's an excellent opportunity for a senior professional aiming to advance their career within a global environmental firm.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on PFAS for various projects, including site investigation, remediation, product stewardship, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with North American leadership to develop a global PFAS market strategy.
  • Manage and provide technical oversight on complex site investigation and remediation projects across industries such as chemical, manufacturing, and oil & gas.
  • Design and oversee remedial solutions for contaminated media, employing innovative technologies and traditional methods.
  • Assist clients in developing contaminated site management strategies.
  • Evaluate remedial technologies for site-specific applicability (feasibility screening).
  • Perform remediation design tasks, including data evaluation, calculations, cost estimation, and report preparation.
  • Delegate project tasks and mentor junior staff.
  • Prepare technical proposals and support business development efforts.
  • Build collaborative relationships within ERM.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, geology, or hydrogeology.
  • At least 8 years of consulting experience, with 15+ preferred, working with industrial clients on complex investigation and remediation projects under various regulatory frameworks.
  • Expertise in PFAS-related topics, demonstrated through publications or conference presentations.
  • Experience leading remediation design projects and preparing detailed technical reports.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with regulators and clients.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Up-to-date Health and Safety training (e.g., HAZWOPER 40-hour, OSHA 30-hour).

The annual base salary range for this position is approximately $147,670 – $198,032 USD, with compensation depending on education, experience, location, and other factors. The role is eligible for performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, insurance, 401(k)/RRSP, and more.
