Job summary

Black & White Engineering is seeking an Electrical Technical Director in Tampa, FL to guide technical direction for complex building projects and mentor high-performing teams. You will oversee electrical design delivery, manage project performance, grow client relationships, and contribute to the global consultancy while collaborating with colleagues across our offices.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep expertise and strong commercial acumen.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• PE license, equivalent registration, or active progress toward credential.
• Significant experience leading complex electrical and multidisciplinary MEP design for various building types.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Demonstrated client leadership, business development, and winning profitable work.
• Working knowledge of US codes, standards, and workplace safety requirements.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable tools and MS Office.
• Experience managing international projects is desirable.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

As an Electrical Technical Director, you will lead the development, design, coordination, and successful delivery of electrical engineering services for complex building projects. You will provide technical direction, manage project and team performance, strengthen client relationships, and take ownership of commercial outcomes while working closely with colleagues across our global offices.

Technical leadership and design excellence

You will set the technical vision for the electrical engineering team and lead multidisciplinary design teams toward clear project objectives. As an active contributor to the company’s Technical Authority, you will help advance design excellence and keep the business informed about emerging products, technologies, software, analysis tools, codes, and standards.

Project delivery and commercial ownership

You will oversee technical delivery against agreed schedules and budgets, make project and resource decisions, and adapt plans when priorities change. You will maintain project commercial dashboards, support invoicing, evaluate cost and profitability, prepare feasibility studies and fee proposals, and provide clear reports to leadership, clients, and project partners.

People leadership and team development

You will lead, mentor, coach, and develop engineers, building capability and accountability across the team. You will manage team performance against the business plan, support required compliance training, and foster a culture grounded in accountability, integrity, simplicity, inclusion, and recognition.

Client relationships and business growth

You will represent Black & White Engineering at senior technical and client meetings, build trusted relationships, and take an active role in sales and marketing. Your commercial judgment and technical credibility will help the business win profitable work and develop sustainable client partnerships.

Global collaboration and influence

You will work closely with other global Black & White offices, sharing knowledge, aligning with global company direction, and making the best use of resources across locations. You will also contribute to the relevant office leadership team and travel domestically and internationally when project and business needs require it.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, equivalent professional registration, or active progress toward an appropriate professional credential.
• Significant experience leading complex electrical and multidisciplinary MEP design for a range of building types.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Demonstrated client leadership, business development, and contribution to winning profitable work.
• Working knowledge of applicable US laws, regulations, codes, standards, and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Proficiency with relevant engineering design and analysis software, including AutoCAD or comparable tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience managing international projects is desirable.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
