Job summary

Boston Proper is seeking a Technical Designer (Wovens) to join our Product Development & Technical Design team. You will guide the technical development from initial fit through production, collaborating with Design, Product Development, and Merchandising to ensure exceptional fit and quality across all categories.

You will manage fittings, update PLM with accurate comments, review construction and grading, and support continuous improvement of technical processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Apparel Product Development, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of apparel technical design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, fit, fabrics, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with PLM systems.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve efficiency, technical accuracy, documentation quality, workflow management, and cross-functional collaboration. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and adopt emerging technologies that enhance product development and technical design processes
  • Experience working with overseas vendors and global sourcing partners preferred
  • Experience in women's contemporary or fashion apparel preferred
  • Knowledge of digital patternmaking or 3D product development tools is a plus preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain technical packages with fit comments, construction details, and patterns.
  • Measure development and production samples and update PLM.
  • Prepare garments for fittings and document fit observations.
  • Attend fittings and communicate revisions to vendors.
  • Manage styles from first fit through production approvals.
  • Track sample status and approvals in PLM.
  • Review workmanship and grading for consistency with standards.
  • Assist with photo/sample approvals and production readiness.
  • Coordinate alterations and sample modifications as needed.
  • Review catalog and website copy for accuracy of garment descriptions and measurements.
  • Partner with teams to resolve technical issues and improve quality.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance technical processes and product execution.
