Job summary

American Eagle Outfitters seeks a Technical Designer to examine proto and production samples, ensure accurate measurements and fit, and support designers in creating technical packages.

The role requires strong pattern skills, 5+ years of related experience, and excellent communication. A hybrid schedule in New York is expected with collaboration across design and production teams.

• Maintain fit standards, reports, records, and samples.
• Create and maintain tracking reports of sample status.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Hybrid work may require in-office presence part of the week.

Title: Technical Designer

Reports To: Manager, Senior Manager, or Director - Tech Designer

Location: This role will be hybrid, based in our New York Design Office

Get to Know the Role: Responsible for examining and measuring proto, fit and production samples to ensure accurate execution of requested measurements, quality, and construction and overall fit of garments. Aid Designers in achieving desired point of view of garments when creating technical packages and evaluating overall fit and construction.

What You’ll Do:

• Represent the Company interest of universal and consistent fit and proper construction.
• Liaise with Design and Production to communicate company point of view to vendors.
• Lead / facilitate fit sessions.
• Communicate development and fit information, from initial concept through pre-production samples, through written reports, phone conversations, and sketches and/or pattern corrections, in a timely manner.
• Maintain fit standards, written reports, records and samples.
• Create and maintain tracking reports of sample status.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Able to work in a hybrid environment, which may/will require working in person/in-office for a portion or all of a week based on theneeds of the business
• In person/in-office collaboration may be required for work centralized around product development, milestone meetings, fittings, and approvals.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and education.
• 5+ years related experience; pattern skills required. Apparel and/or Active experience preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to partner between many departments / internal business partners.
• Strong Microsoft Suite & Google skills required.
• Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks at once.

• Actual starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience and location.
