Job summary

L.L.Bean in Freeport, Maine is seeking an experienced Technical Designer for a temporary assignment lasting 4-6 months. Onsite presence at our Freeport headquarters is required two days per week.

You will evaluate fit, develop and maintain technical specs, and drive continuous improvements in product development. Candidates should have a 2-year degree, 3+ years of related experience, and strong garment construction knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate samples for fit, construction, and quality against established standards.
• Conduct detailed garment measurements and ensure consistency within specification guidelines.
• Lead fit sessions and provide technical recommendations to improve product fit and performance.
• Create, maintain, and update technical specifications throughout the development lifecycle.
• Partner with Product Development, Merchandising, and other cross-functional teams to resolve fit and construction issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve fit, quality, and overall product consistency.
• Support commercialization efforts by helping ensure products are production-ready and aligned with brand standards.

What You’ll Do

• Experience in Technical Design, Product Development, Apparel Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit evaluation, patternmaking, and quality standards.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical specifications and fit documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

L.L.Bean uses a market-based compensation approach. The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $73,000.00 - $91,200.00. Individual compensation may vary based on factors such as a candidate's experience, qualifications, education, geographic location, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
