Job summary

IA Interior Architects, Chicago studio, is seeking a Technical Designer to advance interior design concepts for corporate interiors and adaptive reuse projects. You’ll develop both presentation and construction drawings with the team and help coordinate multi-disciplinary details.

You will review drawings for design integrity, select fixtures/finishes, assemble furniture packages, and conduct field surveys while mentoring junior designers and ensuring budget alignment with client goals.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of architecture or design school; equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 6 years’ experience in workplace design, focusing on corporate interiors and building repositioning/adaptive reuse projects.
  • Knowledge of building codes and ADA requirements and strong drafting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute interior design concepts for repositioning/adaptive reuse projects.
  • Create presentation and construction drawings with the team.
  • Oversee design and documentation for smaller projects with support from senior leadership.
  • Coordinate consultant drawings and develop architectural details to align with design solutions.
  • Review engineering and landscape drawings for compliance with design solutions.
  • Select fixtures and finishes, develop furniture packages, and conduct field surveys.
  • Ensure adherence to budget and report variances to senior leadership and client.
  • Mentor Junior/Intermediate Designers and provide feedback on work products.
  • Conduct client interviews to determine space needs and requirements.

Technical Designer

Chicago studio.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Works with team to develop and execute design concepts for interior and exterior repositioning and/ or adaptive reuse projects
  • Works with team to develop design ideas and create both presentation and construction drawings
  • For smaller projects may oversee all design and documentation, with support from senior leadership.
  • Coordinates consultant drawings and develops architectural details to ensure alignment with design solution.
  • Provide review of engineering and landscape drawings to ensure they comply with design solution.
  • With Senior Designer, researches and selects fixtures and finishes to use for projects
  • Develops and delivers overall design and furniture packages
  • Conducts field surveys
  • Ensures adherence to set budget and immediately informs Senior Designer, PM and/or client of any potential variances to the budget
  • May mentor the work of Junior and Intermediate Designers
  • Oversee tasks and provide feedback on work product
  • Conducts client interviews to determine space needs and requirements
Qualifications:

  • Advanced architecture detailing skills
  • Extensive experience leading the development of project contract documents
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems, codes and ADA requirements
  • Working knowledge of path of travel requirements
  • Working knowledge of contract administration
  • Intermediate MS Office Suite and Miro skills
  • Advanced Revit skills
  • Advanced Adobe Creative Suite skills
