Job summary

Interior Architects in Chicago is seeking a Technical Designer to translate design concepts into construction documents for interior projects. You will collaborate with designers to develop layouts, elevations and furniture packages, and coordinate with consultants on a range of corporate interiors.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in workplace design, strong Revit and Adobe Creative Suite skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff while ensuring drawings meet schedule and budget constraints.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of architecture or design school; equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 6+ years’ experience in workplace design, focusing on corporate interiors and building repositioning and adaptive re-use projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design concepts for interior and exterior repositioning and/or adaptive reuse projects.
  • Create presentation and construction drawings with the team.
  • Oversee design and documentation on smaller projects with support from senior leadership.
  • Coordinate consultant drawings and develop architectural details.
  • Review engineering and landscape drawings for design alignment.
  • Research and select fixtures and finishes with Senior Designer.
  • Deliver overall design and furniture packages; conduct field surveys.
  • Monitor budget adherence and flag variances to the client and team.
  • Mentor junior designers and review work products.
  • Conduct client interviews to determine space needs and requirements.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Works with team to develop and execute design concepts for interior and exterior repositioning and/ or adaptive reuse projects
  • Works with team to develop design ideas and create both presentation and construction drawings
  • For smaller projects may oversee all design and documentation, with support from senior leadership.
  • Coordinates consultant drawings and develops architectural details to ensure alignment with design solution.
  • Provide review of engineering and landscape drawings to ensure they comply with design solution.
  • With Senior Designer, researches and selects fixtures and finishes to use for projects
  • Develops and delivers overall design and furniture packages
  • Conducts field surveys
  • Ensures adherence to set budget and immediately informs Senior Designer, PM and/or client of any potential variances to the budget
  • May mentor the work of Junior andIntermediate Designers
  • Oversee tasks and provide feedback on work product
  • Conducts client interviews to determine space needs and requirements
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of architecture or design school: equivalent experience may be substituted

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of design principles, and workplace trends
  • Advanced presentation skills
  • Advanced knowledge of space planning
  • Extensive knowledge of furnishings and finishes
  • Advanced sketching and rendering skills
  • Advancedarchitecture detailing skills
  • Extensive experience leading the development of project contract documents
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems, codes and ADA requirements
  • Working knowledge of path of travel requirements
  • Working knowledge of contract administration
  • Intermediate MS Office Suite and Miro skills
  • Advanced Revit skills
  • Advanced Adobe Creative Suite skills
