Job summary

La La Land Creative Co. in Los Angeles seeks a Technical Designer Manager to lead the category fit process, translate design intent into technical specs, and establish precise construction and measurement standards for factories.

You will evaluate samples, annotate tech packs, mentor staff, and partner with Design and Production to meet deadlines without compromising quality. This role requires 7+ years in tech design, strong pattern and fabric knowledge, and Excel proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of garment construction and patterns.
  • Deep understanding of fabrics and their applications.
  • Knowledge of target specs, POMs and grading.
  • High attention to detail and precision in notes.
  • Proficient in Excel for documenting comments and corrections.
  • Ability to multi-task while staying organized.
  • High sense of urgency and timeliness in communication and follow-through.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and spec samples for compliance with specs, construction, quality and design intent.
  • Illustrate pattern corrections with Photoshop, Illustrator or Excel for overseas vendors.
  • Detail comments and address all garment corrections via Excel with factory reps.
  • Lead fit sessions and note-take to align with production timelines.
  • Collaborate with Design and Production to maintain design intent, fit and quality.
  • Adhere to calendars to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Mentor Tech Designer, Production patternmaker and Sample Coordinator as needed.
  • Communicate fit approvals with buyers when necessary.
  • Oversee sample library management of approved Import samples and patterns.
  • Review internal processes for areas of improvement.

Job description

The Technical Designer Manager manages category specific fit process, creates and maintains detailed technical documentation, and communicates clear construction and measurement standards to vendors and factories. This position plays a critical role in upholding brand quality, driving consistency across categories, and ensuring timelines are met without compromising quality and fit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluate and spec samples to determine compliance of specs, construction, quality and design intent. Compare construction and overall execution vs. tech pack requirements.
  • Illustrate pattern corrections and style comments with Photoshop, Illustrator or Excel to communicate accurate and precise corrections to overseas vendors.
  • Detail comments and address all garment corrections via Excel with factory representatives. Ensure all samples are fit and comments are processed within a timely manner.
  • Lead and take detailed notes during fit session to execute fit comments promptly to keep the fit process aligned with production timelines.
  • Collaborate with Design and Production to ensure design intent is executed with the highest quality of fit, construction and workmanship while maintaining deadlines.
  • Work within calendar to ensure deadlines are maintained.
  • Review graded nest patterns and issue grading guidelines to vendors post-fit approval to maintain consistent fit and quality.
  • Manage and mentor the Tech Designer, Production patternmaker, and Sample Coordinator to set priorities and assist across product categories based on workload and business needs.
  • Communicate fit approvals with buyers where necessary.
  • Oversee sample library management of approved Import samples and patterns with Sample Coordinator.
  • Consistently review internal processes for areas of improvement.
  • Complete ad hoc assignments as assigned by management.
