Technical Consulting Director, Archaeologist (Director Level)

Overview

ERM is seeking a highly motivated Technical Consulting Director, Archaeologist to join our global Cultural Resources Services team. This full-time, salary-based position can be based from a local ERM office or fully remote, preferably near the east coast with knowledge of regional regulatory processes (federal, state, municipal). The role involves providing technical expertise, project management, and business development across the U.S., with a focus on the Minneapolis office, though other locations may be considered.

Responsibilities
  1. Oversee archaeological fieldwork including literature review, surveys, and excavations.
  2. Support ERM’s growth through technical consulting and client engagement.
  3. Collaborate with other ERM practice areas for multidisciplinary resource sharing.
  4. Represent ERM at meetings with regulatory agencies.
  5. Manage client communications, subcontractors, and project proposals.
  6. Ensure project scope, budget, schedule, and quality standards are met.
  7. Lead, mentor, and develop the technical team.
  8. Leverage client relationships for business expansion.
  9. Participate in impact assessments and research activities.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field with 8+ years of experience.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist.
  • Experience with inventory, survey, testing, and data recovery.
  • Ability to obtain necessary permits.
  • Strong report writing and regulatory interaction skills.
  • Proficiency in permitting regulations (FERC, USACE, DEQ, SCC).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and business development skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motorized vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with energy projects and laboratory processing.
  • Supervisory experience and strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Compensation & Benefits

Annual base salary ranges from $145,000 to $171,467, depending on experience and location. Additional bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package are offered.
