Job description

ProjectDiscovery is an open-source powered security company with a mission to democratize security. We specialize in detecting new, exploitable vulnerabilities and misconfigurations so they can be remediated before hackers exploit them. Leveraging one of the largest open-source security communities in the world, we host contributions from some of the sharpest ethical hackers and bug bounty hunters to our 20+ open-source projects. Our projects have earned us over 80k GitHub stars, with tools like Nuclei and httpx standing out as some of the fastest-growing in the world.

We recently expanded our offerings with the launch of ProjectDiscovery Cloud Platform, combining our most popular tools into a single, hosted service designed for enterprise use cases. This platform seamlessly integrates asset management, vulnerability detection, cloud security tooling, and unique remediation capabilities to continuously safeguard your external perimeter.

Our tightly-knit, passionate team of ~35 is globally distributed, encouraging members to work from anywhere in the world. With total funding of over $25M, we're poised to revolutionize the application security market and are on the lookout for driven and talented individuals to join our mission.

We’re seeking a Technical Community Manager to join ProjectDiscovery. This is a unique opportunity to lead and nurture one of the largest open-source infosec communities in the world. ProjectDiscovery’s community comprises security engineers, ethical hackers, researchers, and enthusiasts dedicated to improving the security of the internet through modern tooling. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring our community remains open, welcoming, and a hub for innovation and collaboration.

This is a foundation role on a lean, fast-moving team, so you’ll operate with minimal guidance while also collaborating cross-functionally with our engineering, product, and go-to-market teams. This is a remote position open to candidates within the United States.

What you will do
  • Community engagement: Manage and moderate our Discord server and GitHub discussions to foster active participation and adherence to community guidelines.
  • Technical support: Address technical inquiries from community members, facilitating knowledge sharing and problem-solving.
  • Content creation: Develop and share community-focused content, including newsletters, blog posts, and contributor spotlights, to highlight achievements and updates.
  • Educational content development: Produce technical content such as how-to YouTube videos and other educational materials to assist users in leveraging our tools effectively.
  • Ambassador program management: Lead our ambassador program by recruiting and supporting community advocates to expand our reach and impact.
  • Recognition and swag: Coordinate the distribution of stickers and swag to contributors as tokens of appreciation for their efforts.
  • Event organization: Plan and execute local events and meetups worldwide, fostering in-person connections and knowledge exchange.
  • Feedback coordination: Organize and facilitate monthly community feedback calls with our CTO, ensuring community insights inform our development roadmap.
Who you are
  • Technical security expertise: Possess deep technical knowledge in security and ethical hacking, with hands-on experience using our open-source tools such as Nuclei, subfinder, and httpx.
  • Former security practitioner: Previously worked as a security engineer, ethical hacker, or researcher to bring industry experience to community interactions
  • Community management experience: Demonstrated experience in managing and growing technical communities, preferably in the open-source domain.
  • Content creation skills: Proven ability to create engaging content tailored to a technical audience, including written and multimedia formats.
  • Self-starter: Highly motivated and proactive, capable of working independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with a distributed team.

Working with a Global Team:
Work at ProjectDiscovery is not about working from nine to five; rather, it is about embracing the remote lifestyle that allows for a healthy balance of work and living. We are about getting the work done, not clocking-in and clocking-out, allowing you to incorporate the work into your day instead of squeezing your life around your work. We partner very well across more than 15 time zones on 5 continents, and we are just getting warmed-up in our growth. Overall, there is freedom in being remote, and we embrace that with an equal focus on work and life.
