Job summary

Somatus is seeking an Accounting Manager, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting to own the close process, analyze technical accounting matters, and prepare audit-ready disclosures. This hybrid role in our McLean, VA office partners with Finance, FP&A, Legal, and external auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting under U.S.

GAAP. Preferred candidates bring CPA credentials and Big 4 or national public accounting experience, with strong analytical and communication skills and a focus on

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 7+ years of progressive accounting experience (public or corporate).
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, ASC 606 and ASC 460 for complex revenue/guarantee transactions.
• Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and audit support requirements.
• Ability to prepare audit-ready documentation and supporting schedules.
• ERP experience with NetSuite is preferred; strong Excel skills required.
• Ability to lead, coach staff, and collaborate cross-functionally with Finance and Legal.

Responsibilities

• Own or support key monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and rollforwards.
• Serve as a technical accounting resource under U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 and ASC 460 considerations.
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda and analyses for significant matters.
• Collaborate with Legal, Finance, FP&A, and Operations to review arrangements and disclosures.
• Maintain chart of accounts, reporting hierarchies, and close processes for consistency and scalability.
• Design and enhance internal controls and remediation of control gaps for IPO/SOX readiness.
• Develop and enhance reporting tools, reconciliations, and analytics for visibility into trends.
• Work with Finance Systems/IT to implement system enhancements for accuracy and automation.
• Drive process improvements to speed up close and improve control execution.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, close calendars, and disclosure packages.
• Support audit requests and provide PBC schedules and walkthroughs as needed.
• Coach and develop staff, ensuring high performance within the accounting function.
