Job summary

Merck & Co. is seeking an Energy Center Technician for our Vaccine Manufacturing Facility in Durham, NC. You will maintain energy center equipment across the site and monitor alarms, ensuring operability and regulatory compliance.

The role requires hands-on maintenance, PM/PDM knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Process Engineers. Rotating shifts and overtime may be required as part of plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Proficient with PCs and Windows platforms.
  • Read electrical prints, P&ID diagrams.
  • Extensive experience with utility systems and industrial electrical work.
  • Experience documenting maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ability to work in a team-based culture and independently.
  • Willing to work overtime including weekends, holidays and nights.
  • Preferred: Universal Refrigerant License.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain Energy Center equipment (chillers, compressors, boilers, etc.).
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance on Energy Center equipment.
  • Prepare maintenance documentation (PMs, corrective actions, validation procedures).
  • Provide technical information to Quality, Manufacturing and Engineers.
  • Maintain utility equipment and participate in new installations.
  • Support GMP compliance and SOPs for quality.

We currently have-an Energy Center Technician position available-at-our Vaccine Manufacturing Facility in Durham, NC.

The Energy Center Technician will be responsible for energy center maintenance support and alarm monitoring.

The Technician will maintain all Energy Center equipment located throughout the entire site and take appropriate action to correct Plant Engineering maintenance problems.

The Technician will also be responsible for supporting departmental vision that provides for continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation.-

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain all Energy Center Equipment, which includes but not limited to chillers, air compressors, boilers, waste water treatment, potable water, etc.
  • Knowledge of PM and PDM techniques Vibration Analysis and Ultrasonic detection.
  • Sets up, adjusts, repairs, and maintains Energy Center equipment
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance on Energy Center equipment.
  • Prepares technical documentation (PMs, Correctives, & validation procedures) on as needed basis
  • Provides technical specifications and information to Quality, Manufacturing, Process-Project Engineers, and other Manufacturing Division's requestors
  • Maintains Utility equipment by developing/performing PM's, installing new equipment, completing validation protocols, documenting work using a computerized maintenance management system (SAP) and other duties as requested by the Maintenance Coach.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and prepares inspection reports concerning operation of equipment and mechanical condition of equipment.
  • Responsible for participating in new equipment installations by interfacing with equipment vendors and recommending spare parts, selecting lubrication processes and assisting process project engineers. Performing initial de-bug and redesign operations to make equipment operable.
  • Responsible for performing assignments in conformance with appropriate Regulatory (GMP's) and department Standard Operating Procedures which assure the quality of our products.

This is a rotating shift position,5 2 2 5 rotation, hours of work are 6:00 to 6:00 rotating from days to nights every 3 months.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent and Two (2) years energy center maintenance experience with a focus on energy center systems, troubleshooting & repair within a manufacturing environment-
OR
  • 2-year technical degree and 2 years energy center maintenance experience with a focus on industrial utility systems management/troubleshooting & repair within a manufacturing environment
Required
  • Proficient in the use and knowledge of PCs (Hardware & Software), word processing, spreadsheet applications, and Microsoft Windows platforms
  • Must be able to read electrical prints, P&ID's, and understand P&ID control loops
  • Extensive industrial electrical experience involving utility systems, with a strong knowledge of steam generation systems, air compressors, chillers, potable water systems, Building Automation Systems, waste water systems and HVAC systems
  • Must have-experience documenting-maintenance and repair activities
  • Must have ability to function in a team-based empowered culture
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and effectively with peers, and display strong interpersonal and organizational skill
  • The ability to work overtime that includes weekend, holiday, evening and nights
