Profound, the AI-enabled marketing platform, is hiring a Tech Lead Manager for our Context team in San Francisco. This hybrid role blends technical leadership with people management, requiring hands-on coding and architectural oversight.

You will guide integration services, knowledge base storage, and data synchronization, while growing a team of engineers and shaping the product’s retrieval quality. Compensation reflects seniority and impact.

Qualifications

• 7+ years backend engineering experience with at least 2 years in tech leadership.
• Strong Python skills; this is the language the team lives in.
• Rust is strongly preferred for performance-sensitive areas.
• Hands-on experience building search or retrieval systems: embeddings, vector stores, hybrid search, reranking, chunking.
• Experience integrating with third-party APIs at scale (OAuth, token refresh, rate limits).
• Strong Postgres skills; multi-tenant data models and migrations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Context roadmap with the CTO, Head of Engineering, and product leadership on priorities.
• Hire and develop a team of 4 to 8 engineers; run interview loops and calibrate performance.
• Drive technical decisions on retrieval quality, memory schemas, and sync architectures.
• Own retrieval quality as a measurable product surface with evaluative checks.
• Ship code yourself on high-leverage parts of the system.
• Be the engineering point of contact when integrations break or data becomes stale.
• Represent Context in conversations with product, sales, and exec teams on data access, freshness, or security commitments.
• Partner with teams building agent products as primary internal customers.
