This remote role involves occasional travel to hubs and requires strong engineering expertise coupled with effective communication with defense and federal customers.

Technical Lead (Full Stack/AI/SC Cleared) - Between $230-300,000 base + equity, Remote with occasional travel to their hubs

Tech Lead sought for a fast-growth modern defense AI company who is equal parts technical (strong engineering background) and strong with communication to operate as a senior tech point of contact for a number of key defense and federal customers. This is a highly technical, customer-facing role sitting somewhere between a Staff/Principal Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer and technical Solutions Lead.

You’ll work directly with mission stakeholders to understand complex technical problems, shape solutions and lead technical delivery - while being hands-on enough to get into the weeds when required. The ideal person can do the work and talk the talk: a strong engineer who is equally credible discussing architecture with an engineering team as they are leading a technical conversation with a defense customer inside a classified environment.

What you'll do

• Act as the technical lead across multiple defense and federal customer engagements
• Drive architectural decisions across the core platform, evaluating tradeoffs across performance, scalability, security, and maintainability and building alignment across engineering and product stakeholders
• Lead major technical epics from conception through delivery, decomposing ambiguous problems into executable plans and keeping cross-functional teams moving with clarity and momentum
• Translate complex and sometimes ambiguous mission requirements into practical technical solutions
• Work across software engineering, infrastructure, data and AI/ML systems
• Partner closely with internal engineering and R&D teams to drive customer requirements through to execution
• Contribute hands-on where needed while providing technical direction across deployments
• Move between customer environments and projects, taking ownership without requiring constant escalation back to senior engineering leadership
• Support deployments within secure and classified environments

You’ll likely have:

• A strong software engineering foundation, ideally at Staff, Principal, Lead or equivalent level
• Broad technical understanding across backend/software systems, infrastructure/cloud and data
• Experience working with AI/ML systems, with enough depth to confidently discuss modern ML and LLM-based applications
• Experience deploying complex software into real-world customer environments
• Strong customer-facing skills - you're comfortable owning technical conversations with senior stakeholders and end users
• The ability to move between architecture, technical problem-solving and execution
• Experience operating autonomously in ambiguous, high-ownership environments
• Experience with defense, federal or other mission-critical customers is highly desirable (and/or SC Cleared or Clearable)
