Job summary

Franciscan Health Lafayette Central is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician to respond to emergency calls, provide immediate care, and transport patients to a medical facility. The role requires EMT certification (Indiana/NREMT), BLS, and a valid driver’s license, with travel up to 100% as part of the job.

Preferred candidates have ER/911 experience and demonstrate strong ability to assess and manage patients in transit, following regulatory scopes of care.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED.
  • Emergency setting experience preferred (ER/911).
  • EMT certification recognized in Indiana (NREMT).
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association).
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and provide immediate medical care.
  • Administer CPR and use AED as needed in pre-hospital setting.
  • Assess patient en route to the emergency facility and adjust care.
  • Work within scope of care per state/regional/local regulations.
  • Manage general medical complaints including altered mental status.
  • Document observations and care provided verbally and in writing.
  • Restock and replace used linens, blankets, and supplies.

Within Franciscan, the Emergency Medical Technician holds the responsibility of responding to emergency calls. The goal of this position is to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Search for medical identification emblems as a guide to appropriate emergency medical care.

  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including use of automated external defibrillators in a pre-hospital setting.

  • Constantly assess the patient in route to the emergency facility and administer additional care, as required.

  • Function within the scope of care, as defined by state, regional and local regulatory agencies.

  • Manage general medical complaints, such as altered mental status, respiratory, cardiac and diabetic complaints.

  • Report verbally and in writing, the observations and emergency medical care of the patient.

  • Restock and replace used linens, blankets, and other supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required High School Diploma/GED

  • 2 years Emergency setting (e.g. ER department or 911 contracted ambulance service) Preferred

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Indiana

  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association

  • Drivers License - Drivers License
