Job summary

GBX Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Alcohol and Drug Counselor to conduct substance-use assessments for Job Corps students, develop individualized intervention plans, and provide counseling and relapse-prevention support.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current, valid, unrestricted license in a counseling discipline.
• Minimum one year of experience as a licensed independent practitioner focused on substance abuse prevention, counseling, or education.
• Experience providing assessment and treatment services to adolescence and young adults.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a healthcare team to provide optimal services to a population of financially disadvantaged youth, typically 16 to 24 years old.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and motivational skills.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Ensures orientation of new students to the center’s TEAP program as a center wide alcohol and drug prevention and education effort, focusing on removing barriers to employability.
• Provide center wide substance prevention and education services that encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
• Conduct assessment of students to identify substance use problems and develop intervention services as needed.
• Coordinate career plans and intervention planning with center counselors and health providers, as well as educators and instructors to update a student’s intervention plan and behavioral contract.
• Conduct ongoing counseling and support groups, including an introduction to the self-help program for intervention and annual prevention events.
• Coordinate relapse prevention services.
• Assure adherence to Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance policy for substance abuse amongst student.
• Coordinate and supervise the biochemical testing program and maintain integrity.
• Collaborate with recreation to develop leisure activities and incentives for an alcohol and other drug free lifestyle.
• Coordinate and participate in Tobacco Use Prevention, HEALS programming and other center activities.
• Collaborate with Center Mental Health Counselor regarding support and intervention needs of students with co-occurring conditions.
• Ensure patient privacy for all assessments and safeguard health records per HIPAA.
