General Function

The Optometric Technician ensures high-quality optometric care during eye exams and provides an excellent patient experience by effectively linking the doctor and primary care functions.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Assist with patient care and eye exams, managing patient records and supporting patient flow.
  2. Perform tests such as visual acuity, depth and color perception, and retinal imaging to aid the optometrist.
  3. Support accurate diagnosis and treatment by performing necessary tests promptly.
  4. Review prescriptions and patient information carefully, identifying special needs and consulting with team members as needed.
  5. Address patient dissatisfaction promptly and professionally.
  6. Ensure accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and patient volume.
  7. Organize and file patient records in compliance with standards and HIPAA.
  8. Support contact lens exams, including care, inventory, and orders.
  9. Utilize scheduling systems and operate the point-of-sale system accurately.
  10. Maintain a safe environment for staff and patients.
  11. Support visual merchandising and adapt to various examination scenarios.
  12. Perform pre-examination testing, explaining measurements and answering patient questions.
  13. Maintain and disinfect equipment; provide clinical support as needed.
  14. Work weekends and evenings as required.
  15. Adhere to attendance, dress code, and company policies.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. 2+ years of experience in optometry, ophthalmology, or healthcare.
  3. Knowledge of optical and medical terminology and equipment.
  4. Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Basic math skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in healthcare, customer service, retail, or optical.
  2. Optometric technician certification.
