Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a skilled leader to oversee metering services, coach and supervise field staff, and drive safe, efficient operations. The role involves educating teams on meter tech, coordinating with internal groups, and helping set standards and training programs.

The ideal candidate has strong supervisory experience, excellent communication, and a background in electric metering operations. On-site schedule is Monday–Friday, 7am–3pm, with a focus on safety and performance

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required and an apprenticeship or journeyman pathway is preferred.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership experience in a metering/utility setting.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and develop field staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, advising, and teaching to others through day-to-day contact.
  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate the performance of direct reports within the reporting organization.
  • Ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operations of metering services.
  • Educate team on identifying and resolving meter malfunctions and communication issues.
  • Remain current with all electric metering systems and meters.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet expectations and budgets for O&M and capital.
  • Develop and implement new metering standards.
  • Assist with software product specifications, development, testing, and training.
  • Train the trainer to assist employees with field devices.
  • Participate in metering training and safety meetings.
  • Develop annual plans to improve performance and enforce work practices.
  • Perform field evaluations and competency checkoffs to verify safety.

The nature of the role will include:
  • Provides leadership, coaching, advising, and teaching to others through day-to-day contact.
  • Directs, monitors, and evaluates the performance of direct reports within the reporting organization.
  • Is responsible and accountable for the continuous, safe, and efficient operations of metering services.
  • Educate team members on identifying and resolving meter malfunctions, communication errors on single and three phase meters.
  • Remains current with all electric metering systems and meters.
  • Effectively collaborates with internal teams to deliver on expectations.
  • Works with the metering management team on budgeting for both O&M and capital.
  • Develops and implements new metering standards.
  • Assists with software product specifications, development, testing, and training.
  • Train the trainer to assist employees with their field devices.
  • Participates in and contributes to metering training and safety meetings.
  • Develops and implements annual plans to improve performance and effectiveness from the activities of employees in the field and enforces established work practices and methods.
  • Perform field evaluations and competency checkoffs to verify technicians can safely perform metering tasks.
  • Monitors and documents work habits of employees in the field, as well as counsel's employees, recommends corrective actions required to meet performance standards, and acknowledges good work and good work habits.
  • Demonstrates a solid commitment to all aspects of safety and drives safety performance of staff by providing the appropriate safety training for new and existing personnel.
  • Implements instruction and training of employees in the established work practices and methods utilized throughout the department and create and update training manuals, instructional guides, visual aids, and evaluation materials tailored to specific metering technologies (e.g., AMI, smart meters).
Education / Experience
  • High school diploma required; Associate degree or who has completed a structured Journeyman Meter Technician apprenticeship.
  • 4+ years of experience required in electric metering utility operations.
  • Highly developed technical skills and knowledge gained through a combination of advanced formal education and work experience, or equivalent related work experience in metering functions.
  • 2+ supervisory experience required.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
  • Experience with, or ability to learn, various computer applications.
  • Knowledge and experience in operations and metering installations.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to develop and motivate employees and resolve conflicts diplomatically.
  • Organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Able to work in the field in all weather conditions and in the office.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
  • Proficient in general computer operation and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan for short- and long-term priorities.
  • Analyzing data and making sound business decisions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain and teach complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
On-site Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:00pm
