Job Summary
The Maintenance Team Leader reports directly to the Plant Manager and directs, leads, and supervises a team of maintenance personnel in a natural gas power plant environment. The primary responsibility is to oversee the maintenance program, including routine and outage work, and to implement the Conditioned Based Outage/Integrated Planning Process (Stage Gate Process). The role participates in developing multi‑year tactical and strategic projects, manages maintenance issues to support system needs, evaluates performance of direct reports, and drives continuous improvement by championing change.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for safety, compliance, budgeting, reliability, and all other aspects of the maintenance program
- Provides direction to maintenance personnel (mechanics, electricians, instrument technicians), schedules resources, and manages staffing issues
- Leads development of direct reports and fosters a culture of strong fundamentals of operation and maintenance
- Embraces human performance improvement initiatives
- Ensures plant operations/maintenance personnel comply with safe work practices and processes, plant procedures, and efficiently operate and maintain plant equipment
- Ranks and prioritizes reliability and financial risks using data analysis and historical and predictive maintenance information from internal and external industry sources
- Collaborates with the Fleet Maintenance group to oversee long‑range and detailed planning and execution of fossil unit outages, managing cost, schedule, and safety processes
- Prepares and plans near‑term and strategic maintenance budgets
- Supports budget/project development and cost control for short‑range work plans and long‑range strategic planning
- Manages approved annual budgets and addresses deviations
- Collaborates with Planning and Operations personnel and assigns resources to address emerging maintenance issues
- Initiates leadership in contract management and contractor oversight for routine and outage work
- Staffs and manages routine, planned, emergency, and reserve outages and assigned projects
- Develops schedules and budgets related to routine maintenance and planned outages
- Interfaces with other plant management team members to resolve key issues impacting budget, maintenance strategy, outage scope, schedule, and costs
- Champions gap‑closure actions aligned with company strategy
- Leads site teams to identify and implement maintenance strategies and funding needs for equipment processes
- Maintains strong relationships with internal and external interfaces and key strategic alliance partners
- Stays aware of latest industry research and practical application to drive continuous improvement
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Desired: Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as engineering or equivalent work experience (e.g., 10 years of power plant experience with at least 5 years of maintenance experience)
Minimum Experience
- Without degree: 10 years of Power Plant Experience with at least 5 years of maintenance experience
- With technical degree: 5 years of Power Plant Maintenance Experience
- Desired:
- Experience with O&M/Capital Budget development, execution, and management
- Experience in Work Management processes and maintenance strategies (includes planning and scheduling)
- Experience in contract/project management

Employees are expected to be available to work additional hours, alternate locations, and/or perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime for such duties.
