Job summary

BorgWarner Arden campus is seeking a Team Leader - Production to organize, develop and supervise the manufacturing function for a designated area. You will ensure safety, quality, delivery, cost, inventory, and people goals are met, while guiding three departments and coaching operators.

The role requires leadership experience in manufacturing, strong communication, and the ability to meet schedules. Occasional travel and a focus on 5S and continuous improvement are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus some leadership experience.
• 3+ years in a manufacturing environment.
• 2+ years in a leadership role in automotive preferred.
• Strong priority and time management skills.
• Good written and verbal communication; ability to motivate teams.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and meet daily production schedules as guided by the scheduling group.
• Perform set-ups and changeovers on machinery with team assistance.
• Conduct quality checks and testing of assembled components at end of line.
• Identify proper tooling and understand machinery for quality parts.
• Assign daily duties and ensure standard work is followed.
• Provide input on staffing, overtime, shortages, tooling, quality, and productivity.
• Ensure timely and accurate production reporting.
• Maintain and develop standard work; train operators.
• Oversee team leader duties for multiple departments; assist during absences.
• Respond to abnormal events and escalate as needed; maintain 5S daily.

Job purpose

The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

This position will organize, develop, lead and supervise the manufacturing function of a designated production area or process to ensure the achievement of the goals stated in the Business Plan for Safety, Quality, Production, Cost, Inventory, Delivery, and People.

Key responsibilities

• Responsible for communicating and meeting daily production schedules as guided by the production scheduling group.
• Performs set-ups and changeovers on machinery according to manufacturing specifications with the help of team members
• Responsible for quality checks and testing of assembled components at end of line assembly process.
• Requires the ability to identify proper tooling, understanding machinery and product for quality part manufacturing.
• Utilizes various tools to set-up machinery correctly.
• Assigns daily duties to team members and ensures team members follow standard work and/or work instructions.
• Regularly provide input on staffing needs, overtime requirements, component part shortages, tooling, quality and productivity (including equipment uptime).
• Ensure timely and accurate production reporting.
• Develops and maintains standard work.
• Operates equipment for team members during absences.
• Be able to perform the team leader functions of three departments: your department and the two other departments assigned by the Supervisor or PLM.
• Respond to abnormal events identified by team members.
• Escalate abnormalities as appropriate.
• Ensure 5S standards are met on a daily basis.
• Oversee continuous training of operators. Provide guidance and leadership in teamwork, production processes, set-up and other items pertinent to departmental success.
• Effectively work with employees to identify issues and assist in trouble shooting activities for set-up, tooling, equipment adjustments, and other situations as needed.
• Must be able to perform all quality, SPC and documentation requirements.
• Team leader is responsible for guiding the team and gathering input from team members ensuring objectives around safety, quality, delivery, and cost are met.
• Team leaders will provide input into employee evaluations in draft format. Final appraisals will be determined by the Production Supervisor.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Safety Responsibilities:
• Conduct safety trainings as required.
• Follow up on safety issues, identify unsafe work practices and work with EHS Manager to resolve
• Notify appropriate personnel in an emergency situation.
• Assist employee with completion of accident reports. Ensure reports are completed accurately and entered into Gensuite immediately but no later than 24 hours
• Perform other duties as needed.
