Description

The Team Lead Medical Assistant (Children's National Pediatricians & Associates) performs a variety of moderately complex patient care and administrative activities to assist providers, patients and staff. Assists in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management, including to coordinate workflow processes. Provides training and coaching of staff, oversees workflow processes and work independently with minimum supervision. Assists manager in daily operations, and serves as a back-up in the manager's absence (an emerging manager).


This position is eligible for a $2,000 sign on bonus.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required) and graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Training Program

Minimum Work Experience
5 years medical office experience preferably in a pediatric setting (Required)


Experience with electronic medical records (preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic math calculations. Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
Knowledge of medical equipment and medical terminology.
Basic computer skills.
Knowledge of insurance verification and patient flow monitoring.
Good communication skills (written and oral).
Ability to train and coach staff.
Display excellent customer service skills.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Certification as a Medical Assistant from a nationally recognized certifying board or agency (Preferred)

Functional Accountabilities
Patient Care



  • Observe Vaccine Administration and ensure proper techniques are followed as instructed by providers for all clinical staff.



  • Recognize urgent patient problems and/or emergencies, and address the patient's situation.



  • Monitor patient flow and make changes to improve productivity.



  • Respond to complex patient care requests.



  • Serve as a resource for patient related communications as defined by PCMH workflow; perform lab loop and PCMH workflow.


Administrative Duties



  • Manage staff resources and assignments.



  • Process Prior-Authorizations for medications as requested.



  • Track lab referrals within EHR and ensure all documentation has been completed.



  • Perform vaccine management as related to loop ordering and reporting; complete vaccine ordering and reconciliation.


Quality Control



  • Review immunization history in electronic health record for accuracy.



  • Communicate to assigned staff discrepancies in immunization history, labs, medications, etc.



  • Conduct quality control measures for patient care process.



  • Attend meetings as required and participate in committees as requested.


Managed Care



  • Implement guidelines regarding HIPPA and OSHA regulations.



  • Oversee the entire Vaccine Protocol as documented to include appropriate emergency procedure plans.



  • Implement and improve processes as related to Meaningful Use and PCMH requirements.



  • Communicate with clinical operations manager on other duties as assigned.



  • Perform under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician, and or Provider.


Human Resources



  • Instruct and mentor other medical assistants in basic testing requirements and medical procedures.



  • Instruct and monitor staff handling of medical supplies and equipment.



  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of new staff members and ensure staff adherence to policies and procedures.



  • Design and/or implement staff development activities and trainings.
