Qualifications

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain Nebraska registration within 6 months through reciprocity and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Extensive utility distribution engineering experience and proven ability to review/approve engineering work.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve engineering designs, work orders, and technical packages to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to OPPD standards.
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional meetings to align project priorities, timelines, and customer needs.
  • Drive improvements in engineering processes, tools, and workflows to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
  • Mentor and support engineers at all levels to build technical capability and high team performance.
  • Coordinate workload distribution and monitor project progress to ensure scope, schedule, and quality expectations.

Position Overview

The Lead Distribution Engineer – Customer is a key member of OPPD’s Distribution Engineering team, supporting OPPD’s mission to deliver affordable, reliable, and environmentally sensitive energy services to the community. This role provides advanced technical expertise, oversees engineering quality, reviews and signs off on completed work, and leads coordination efforts with cross-functional teams. The Lead Distribution Engineer also plays a critical role in supporting OPPD’s largest commercial and industrial customers, ensuring their complex needs are addressed through reliable designs, responsive collaboration, and high-quality engineering solutions. You will guide engineering execution, ensure consistency in design standards, and help strengthen system reliability through effective leadership and decision-making

The Impact You’ll Have
  • Review and approve engineering designs, work orders, and technical packages to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to OPPD standards.
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional meetings across departments to align on project priorities, timelines, and customer needs.

  • Support key organizational initiatives, contributing technical insight and representing the distribution engineering perspective.
  • Coordinate workload distribution, monitor project progress, and ensure resources are aligned with scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Engage in customer-facing initiatives as needed to support project delivery and strengthen customer experience.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure reliable construction, design integrity, and safe system operation.

  • Strong understanding of distribution system design, standards, construction practices, and operational considerations.
  • Proven experience coordinating projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to guide, mentor, and support engineering team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and advancing team effectiveness.Ability to support storm response, restoration, and emergency operations when needed.
  • Leadership experience within engineering teams or in a senior technical role.
  • Familiarity with process improvement, QA/QC practices, and design standardization initiatives.
Salary/Wage Info

Grade: S7

Minimum: $121,013

Midpoint: $151,266
