Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) seeks an Engineer III to lead advanced engineering evaluations and coordinate project tasks within the Asset Management team. You will shape standards for substation asset health and reliability, guiding cross-functional collaboration and long-term asset performance.
You will mentor engineers, manage portions of projects, and contribute to budget planning. Communication of reliability risks and maintenance strategies will be essential in this role at OPPD.
As part of OPPD's Asset Management team, the Engineer III plays a key role in leading advanced technical evaluations, coordinating project tasks, and shaping standards for substation asset health and reliability. This role directly supports OPPD’s mission by improving long-term asset performance, strengthening reliability strategies, and guiding cross-functional collaboration. Responsibilities include managing portions of projects and supporting budget planning and stewardship.
Lead complex engineering evaluations, applying advanced judgment to diagnose issues, develop solutions, and validate results.
Manage project tasks and deliverables to ensure scope, schedule, and quality expectations are met.
Develop and refine engineering standards, procedures, and best practices that enhance consistency and performance.
Mentor early-career engineers through technical guidance and constructive feedback.
Coordinate collaboration across engineering, operations, and project teams.
Lead operational excellence efforts by driving the implementation of OPPD's Asset Management roadmap.
Interpret and communicate reliability risks based on asset performance, system conditions, and maintenance effectiveness.
Lead reliability improvement initiatives by shaping maintenance strategies and guiding risk-based decisions.
Reinforce high-reliability culture through strong operational judgment and disciplined evaluation practices.
Develop financial analysis reports that support near-term prioritization and long-term investment planning; represent the department as a subject matter expert when needed.
Demonstrated ability to successfully complete essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
A valid driver's license to operate company vehicle(s).
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline.
Five or more years of engineering experience, with demonstrated capability in advanced analysis or utility asset management.
Experience developing engineering standards or technical procedures.
Prior leadership in reliability, maintenance strategy development, or cross-functional initiatives.
Experience with substation asset condition assessment, failure modes, and long-term planning.
Ability to lead technical evaluations and coordinate project tasks.
Strong understanding of system behavior, reliability principles, and risk-based decision-making.
Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
