Job summary

The University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Manager of Teaching Laboratory stockrooms located in two buildings to provide materials and supplies for over 3,500 students each semester. The role trains and supervises staff, including the Laboratory Coordinator and Instructional Laboratory Technicians, and oversees teaching assistants and work‑study students in the stockroom.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) years of experience in laboratory or waste management.
• One (1) year of experience leading or supervising professional staff.
• Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Responsibilities

• Train and supervise personnel, including the Laboratory Coordinator and Instructional Laboratory Technicians.
• Oversee teaching assistants and work‑study students assigned to the Stockroom.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of chemicals, solutions, supplies and equipment.
• Monitor performance, implement process improvements and resolve issues.
• Purchase chemicals, glassware, equipment and expendable materials; obtain vendor quotes; inspect orders for accuracy.
• Ensure laboratory safety compliance, waste management and upkeep of the two stockrooms.
• Maintain fiscal responsibility for acquisition and inventory of materials and supplies for the teaching labs.
