Job summary

The Center for Disability Services is hiring Teaching Assistants for the Langan School in Albany, NY. You will support classroom instruction and assist with daily living activities to promote student independence.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, 18+ years old, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. NYS Teaching Assistant Certification must be obtained within one year of hire. Compensation ranges from $19.39 to $22.80 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; college credits preferred.
• Must obtain NYS Teaching Assistant Certification within one year of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists in instructional activities as directed by the teacher, including direct instruction of students.
• May assume responsibility for the class when the teacher is absent or unavailable.
• Follows mobility, dining and direct care protocols as directed by the teacher or therapist.
• Assists with activities of daily living, including toileting, diapering, washing, and brushing teeth.
• Performs lifting and positioning of students and utilizes adaptive equipment as needed.
• Records data and monitors student responses as directed by teachers and other professionals.
• Follows behavioral plans and intervention techniques for assigned students.
