Job summary

AoPS Academy is seeking a Math Teaching Assistant for its Vienna campus. This in-person role supports instructors, works with students during class, and helps manage a class of up to 16. You’ll assist with grading and provide constructive feedback while fostering a curious, collaborative learning environment.

The ideal candidate is 16+, has strong math skills, excellent communication, and a positive attitude. Experience with AoPS curriculum is a plus but not required. Sponsorship is not offered.

Join Our AoPS Academy as a MathTeaching Assistant!

The Teaching Assistant will:

  • Support Instruction: Assist instructors with company-created curriculum and materials, helping advanced students grasp complex concepts.
  • Student Support: Work one-on-one with students during class activities and provide additional help when needed.
  • Classroom Management: Help maintain an organized learning environment and assist in managing up to 16 students.
  • Assignment Support: Assist with grading and providing constructive feedback on student work.
  • Build Relationships: Connect with students and staff members to encourage their learning journey and academic growth.
  • Foster Learning: Help create an environment that promotes critical thinking and academic curiosity.

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Must be 16 years old or older
  • Possess strong math skills with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts
  • Experience with/interest in working with younger students strongly preferred
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication
  • Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is not required, but a plus

Not Required:

  • Prior teaching experience or education coursework is not required for this position.

Schedule (Academic Year):

  • AoPS Academy is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
  • This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
  • Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Schedule (Summer):

  • During the summer, we offer multiple two-week camps between June - August
  • Camp classes are held Monday-Friday for 3 hours a day, with both morning and afternoon classes

Our team is currently seeking candidates to fill the following classes:

Honors Math 1: Students develop their number sense and begin to learn about place value. They are introduced to addition and subtraction and are encouraged to approach numerical problems in clever ways. Students play games, solve puzzles, manipulate shapes, and measure physical objects to build foundational understanding of mathematical concepts.

2026â2027 Academic Year | Aug. 23, 2026 â May. 23, 2027

  • Class: Honors Math 1 – Day: Monday – Time (ET): 5:00 - 6:45 PM

Campus Location:

  • This is an in-person position at our Vienna Campus (8381 Old Courthouse Rd, Suite 130, Vienna, VA. 22182).
  • Candidates must be located in Vienna or the greater DMV area and must be able to commute to our campus.
