Job summary

Art of Problem Solving is seeking a part-time Math Instructor for our Vienna Campus to teach afterschool and weekend sessions. You will use company-created curriculum to guide small classes of up to 16 students and provide timely feedback on assessments.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, strong math knowledge, and prior teaching or tutoring experience. On-site position with evenings/weekends, ~3 hours per week per assigned class, 1 hour 45 minutes per course.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong content knowledge in math.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring students.
  • K-12 classroom teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging, curriculum-based math lessons using AoPS materials.
  • Actively engage students in each class and promote student-led learning.
  • Safely manage classrooms with up to 16 students.
  • Grade tests and provide constructive feedback.
  • Build relationships with students and families to support learning journeys.
  • Inspire a love of learning and critical thinking in math.

Skills

Strong content knowledge in math
Experience teaching or tutoring
K-12 classroom experience (preferred)

Education

Bachelor's degree

The Part-Time Instructor will:
  • Teach Engaging Curriculum: Use company-created curriculum and materials designed for advanced students to lead small classes in math.
  • Engage Students: Actively involve students in each class or student-led learning.
  • Classroom Management: Expertly manage up to 16 students.
  • Grade & Provide Feedback: Provide feedback on tests.
  • Build Relationships: Connect with students and families to make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
  • Inspire Learning: Encourage a love for learning and critical thinking in math.
Skills and Experience Requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related or educational field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong content knowledge in math.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring students.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred.
Not Required:
  • A formal teaching credential is not required for this position.
Schedule:
  • AoPS Academy is an on-site afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
  • This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
  • Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.
Our team is currently seeking candidates to fill the following classes:

Honors Math 4 : Students master operations with fractions and multiplication and division of multi-digit numbers. They explore a wide variety of topics, including properties of two-dimensional shapes, symmetry, logic, factors, and probability. Students expand their understanding of numbers to include decimals and negative integers, and they learn to create and use mathematical models via challenging word problems.

Honors Math 4 Sunday 5:00 - 6:45 PM

Campus Location:
  • This is an in-person position at our Vienna Campus (8381 Old Courthouse Rd, Suite 130, Vienna, VA. 22182).
  • Candidates must be located in Vienna or the greater DMV area and must be able to commute to our campus.
