Job summary

French American School of Denver is seeking a Teaching Assistant (K–5) and Before Care Leader for a full-time role. The position runs from 6:45 am to 2:45 pm, supporting dual-language immersion learning and a collaborative, inclusive classroom environment.

You will assist with instruction, student supervision, material preparation, and individualized support while modeling French language use. Eligible candidates should hold a Bachelor’s Degree and be able to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English and French.
  • Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Occasional lifting of 25–40 pounds.
  • Ability to meet physical demands including movement and active supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Support instruction in a Dual Language Immersion K–5 setting under lead teacher direction.
  • Model and encourage use of spoken and written language in both French and English.
  • Assist with small group or one-on-one instruction.
  • Prepare classroom materials and organize learning activities.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and events.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful classroom climate.

What You’ll Do:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support classroom teachers in fostering a safe, engaging, and linguistically rich learning environment. You will assist with classroom instruction, student supervision, preparation of materials, and individualized student support, all while modeling French language use.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Support instruction in a Dual Language Immersion school (K–5) under the direction of the lead teacher(s).
  • Model and encourage the use of spoken and written language throughout the school day.
  • Assist with small group or one‑on‑one instruction in both academic and enrichment settings.
  • Help prepare classroom materials and organize learning activities.
  • Supervise students during classroom transitions, lunch, recess, and school events.
  • Foster a warm, respectful, and inclusive classroom climate that supports all learners.
  • Reinforce behavioral expectations and school norms positively and consistently.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to meet individual student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families (in French or English as appropriate).
  • Participate in staff meetings, school events, and trainings/professional development sessions.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both French and English.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Occasional Lifting: 25–40 pounds.
  • Meet Physical Demands: Required bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and standing for long periods rather than just stationary lifting, ability to move quickly, supervise active children, be outside for periods of time to supervise in various weather conditions.
Preferred:
  • B.A. or higher in education, child development, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a bilingual, immersion, or international school setting.
  • Understanding of child development and/or early literacy and numeracy
  • French/ English or Spanish/English bilingual
