Qualifications

In this role, you will:
  • Create Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to guide, promote, and monitor educational, social/emotional, physical, communicative, intellectual, and life skill/transitional development of individual students in cooperation with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers and others.
  • Attend initial and triennial Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis to share progress, concerns, or changes to be made in the IEP of the student.
  • Assist in the development of student support plans.
  • Meet with general education teachers on a regular basis to discuss the student's special education program and to ensure that the program is coordinated and effective. Collaborate on instructional materials.
  • Meet regularly with the district special education team, other consulting professionals, and school administrators to receive suggestions and to coordinate the programming efforts for the students.
  • Incorporate IEP goals, objectives, and benchmarks into the students' daily schedule. Identify how the goals, objectives and benchmarks will be worked on as part of the students' day. Collect data regarding progress.
  • Observe, administer and interpret results of ability and achievement tests.
  • Confer with other staff members creating a supportive team to plan programs designed to promote educational, physical, and social development of students.
  • Instruct students, using special educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory-motor and perceptual-motor development, memory, language, and cognition.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional learning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of special education law, program implementation, and documentation required by the IEP process.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff, sharing your special education expertise.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, and completion (or current enrollment in) a CDE-approved preparation program for Special Education Generalist, or an official transcript demonstrating 24 semester hours of CDE-accepted special education coursework
  • Must possess one of the following:
    • A current Colorado Special Education Generalist license/endorsement, issued by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE)
    • Eligibility to obtain a Colorado teaching license with a special education endorsement, including passing the required licensure exams — the Elementary Education exam (PLACE 20 or Praxis 5354) and the Special Education Generalist exam (PLACE 01 or Praxis 5001) — or the equivalent multi-subject Praxis benchmarks
    • An out-of-state special education license eligible for reciprocity under CDE rules, with willingness to complete any additional Colorado-specific requirements
  • If not yet fully licensed, eligibility for a Colorado Alternative or Provisional (Interim) Special Services/Teacher Authorization while completing licensure requirements, with an approved plan for full licensure
  • Completion, or willingness to complete, CDE READ Act training and other required trainings for the position
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background check
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States
  • Willingness to complete ongoing professional development required for license renewal, including CDE's required contact hours related to behavioral health and to educating students with disabilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience
  • Experience with Multilingual Education (MLE)
Salary

This is a 20 hour per week, part-time position with a salary range negotiable based on qualifications and years of teaching experience.

Salary Range: $30,000 to 35,000 annual for .5 FTE Part Time
