Be a Difference-Maker in a Child’s Day: Join Us as a Teacher’s Assistant

A Day in the Life of a Teacher’s Assistant

As a Teacher’s Assistant at The Family Place, you’re not just helping with routines you’re helping build a foundation. Each day, you’ll be part of a warm, supportive classroom where little learners feel safe, loved, and ready to explore the world. Whether it’s tying shoes, encouraging potty training, or cheering a child on as they master a new concept, your care and attention make a lasting impact.

You’ll work side-by-side with a Lead Teacher, helping to bring lessons to life and creating a warm, structured space where children feel excited to learn and play. From art time to snack time, from quiet reading to outdoor exploration, your role is essential in keeping the classroom running smoothly and lovingly.

Why Your Role Matters So Much

The children you support are often navigating more than the average toddler or preschooler. That’s why your compassion, patience, and consistency are so important. You’ll provide the stability and encouragement they need to feel safe and thrive—both in the classroom and in life. Every diaper change, every high-five, and every calm moment in a hard day is a building block of healing and hope.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Help maintain a consistent classroom structure by following the Frog Street curriculum as outlined by The Family Place.

  • Supervise children during meals, bathroom breaks, handwashing, naps, and playtime to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Keep the classroom organized and clean, sanitizing toys, labeling materials, and making sure everything is age-appropriate and safe.
  • Communicate with children using kindness and respect to create a nurturing and supportive environment.
  • Build trust by offering steady encouragement and emotional support throughout the day.

Your Training & Development Journey

  • Participate in all staff development activities, in-service trainings, and workshops.
  • Complete 24 clock hours of pre-service training as required by child-care licensing: 8 hours must be completed before working with children, and an additional 16 hours must be completed within the first 90 days of employment.

  • Maintain a current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.

Administrative Responsibilities You’ll Have:

  • Follow and adhere to Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards, Educational First Steps requirements, and National Accreditation Commission guidelines in the classroom.
  • Consult with the Lead Teacher to address any concerns about children before discussing with parents.
  • Communicate professionally with parents about their child’s daily interactions, accidents, or incidents.
