Job summary

Katy ISD is hiring a SPED - Adaptive Behavior teacher for Boudny Elementary in Katy, Texas. This role reports to the Principal and supports eligible students with disabilities through consultation and instruction.

Responsibilities include ARD/IEP meetings, data collection, PLAAFP goals, and collaboration with staff and families. Requires a Bachelor’s degree, Texas certification, and CPI training. Competitive pay and benefits.

  • Communicate with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians information pertaining to student needs (ARD paperwork, IEPs, FBA, BIP & data collection).
  • Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Collaborate with teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP’s and annual goals/objectives for IEP’s.
  • Administer criterion referenced testing, district and state testing as appropriate.
  • Stay current on educational practices and apply new instructional and behavior strategies.
  • Oversee paraprofessionals in implementing student programs and data collection.
  • Collect and maintain data related to student progress and grades.
  • Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as per district policy & ARD documents.
  • Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

The mission of this role:

Provides special education consultation and instruction to meet the academic & behavioral needs of eligible students with disabilities. Communicate with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians information pertaining to student needs (such as but not exclusively: ARD paperwork, IEP’s, FBA, BIP & data collection).

What success looks like for this role:

  • Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Complete local, state and federal paperwork required for program participation.
  • Collaborate with teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP’s and annual goals/objectives for IEP’s.
  • Administer criterion referenced testing, district and state testing as appropriate.
  • Stay current on educational practices and apply new instructional and behavior strategies as appropriate.
  • Oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs, to include training regarding data collection and implementation of specific instructional strategies.
  • Collect and maintain data related to student progress and grades.
  • Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as stipulated by district policy & ARD documents.
  • Effectively manage and provide positive behavior supports for eligible students.
  • Complete State Assessment requirements for eligible students.
  • Communicate regularly with general education teachers and parents/guardians regarding student progress/needs/concerns.
  • Maintain confidential student records and audit folders.
  • Attend district required, job specific trainings and staff development, (including behavior, specific content areas, structured environments and District AB collaborative meetings)
  • Obtain and maintain certification in the CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Provide direct instruction in social and behavioral skills according to students’ targeted behavior goals.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Workplace operational environment to include:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment, noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraints.
