Teacher, Special Education (Autism) (SY 25-26)

Job Overview

Under general supervision of a principal and/or other designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students. Carries out a variety of student monitoring and controls activities; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Classes taught may be single or multi-grade level, subject, skill or specialty oriented. Incumbents usually perform duties within a team or departmental setting, but may work independently in a unique teaching specialty. Some positions are assigned to science labs or industrial arts/technology or other education labs where greater than average monitoring is required to diminish the chance of accidental injury to students.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Plan and implement instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, utilizing various materials and technology to enhance learning.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure a conducive learning environment and assist in behavior management across the school.
  • Coordinate instructional activities with other staff to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings.
  • Communicate instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to carry out instructional or related activities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
  • Eligibility for a Virginia teaching license in Special Education (transcripts required).
  • Knowledge of curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment related to assigned specialty.
  • Understanding of pre-adolescent and adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of LCPS curriculum, research, and theory application.
  • Skill in using multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with students, peers, and parents.
Physical Requirements

Must meet physical demands such as sitting, handling objects, reaching, seeing, talking, hearing, standing, walking, occasional running, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Accommodations may be provided for disabilities.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Months, Days, Hours: 10 months, 200 days, 7 hours

Salary Level: Licensed
