Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Meridian School in Woodridge, IL. This full-time position offers a starting salary of $57,800 per year, with final rate based on years of experience and credentials.

The role involves developing IEPs, direct instruction, progress monitoring, and collaborating with a trans-disciplinary team to implement data-based programs. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
• Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
• Must pass both federal and state background checks including crimes such as drug, violent, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse.
• Background screening and pre-employment checks including references and driving records.
• Ability to work with computers and department software.

Responsibilities

• Develop goals and IEPs for multi-graded classes and various handicap conditions.
• Provide direct instruction and services to students.
• Monitor student progress relative to IEPs.
• Collaborate on data-based instructional programs with the team; plan transitions.
• Provide assessment and diagnostic processes for individualized programs.
• Offer information and support to parents and families.
• Maintain accurate student reports, records and files.
• Identify and use instructional resources effectively.
• Ensure a safe, healthful environment compliant with laws and district policies.
• Support the organization's philosophy and Seven Key Principles of care.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do

As a Special Education Teacher, you will:

• Develop goals and objectives for multi-graded classes and variety of handicap conditions. Implement Individual Education Programs(IEP) for all students.
• Provide direct instruction and services to students.
• Monitor student progress as it relates to established IEP’s.
• Work as a member of a trans-disciplinary team for planning and implementing data based instructional programs. Develop transition plans to move students to targeted integrated or community-based activities, and/or transition to adult lifestyles.
• Provide a thorough assessment and diagnostic process for an individualized instructional program.
• Provide information and support to parents and families when appropriate.
  
• Maintain accurate reports, records and files on individual students.
• Assist in identifying, developing and implementing appropriate use of resources for instructional application.
• Insure a safe and healthful environment for all students in programs adhering to all applicable laws, codes and district policies.
• Supports the Cornell Abraxas' philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
