Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services in South Mountain, PA is seeking a Student Support Specialist to join with a certified Teacher and help students stay on track academically.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, reinforce lessons, and help students complete schoolwork while maintaining a safe, structured classroom and communicating progress with staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in any subject.
• PA Teaching Certification (Public School Certification or Private Academic School Certification) or ability to work under and maintain an emergency permit.
• Experience using effective behavior management techniques in relating to children to encourage participation and positive relationships and demonstrates enthusiasm in lessons.
• At least twenty-one (21) years of age; valid Driver's License; physical exam including TB and drug testing.
• Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including employment and/or personal references.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside a certified Teacher to help students stay on track academically.

• Support classroom structure, routines, and engagement.
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor to students.

What You’ll Do

As a Student Support Specialist you will:

• Work alongside a certified Teacher and play a key role in helping students stay on track academically
• Provide 1:1 and small-group academic support (reading, math, and core subjects)
• Reinforce lessons and help students complete schoolwork
• Support classroom structure, routines, and engagement
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor to students
• Monitor and communicate student progress with teaching staffHelp maintain a safe, structured, and productive classroom environment
• Participate in team discussions around student progress and development

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in any subject

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Interest in education, youth development, or human services
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to stay calm, structured, and supportive in a classroom setting
• PA Teaching Certification (Public School Certification (public I or IIorPrivate Academic School Certification),or ability to work under and maintain an emergency permit.
• Experience using effective behavior management techniques in relating to children to encourage participation and positive relationships and demonstrates enthusiasm in lessons.

Other Qualifications:

• At least twenty-one (21) years of age
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
• Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
• Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Schedule

• Full-Time
• Monday-Friday, year-round
• 8-hour shifts
