Compensation

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this position is $56,000 – $75,000 annually, depending on education, licensure, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Position Summary

The Special Education Teacher provides educational instruction within a highly structured, trauma-informed Day Treatment setting. Teachers work closely with clinicians, behavior specialists, paraprofessionals, families, and community partners to create individualized educational experiences that meet students where they are and help them progress toward their academic and behavioral goals.

  • Provide direct instruction to students throughout the school year
  • Develop and implement engaging, individualized lesson plans aligned with approved curriculum standards
  • Create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment
  • Support students with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and educational challenges
  • Collaborate with clinicians, families, school districts, and treatment team members
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Track academic progress and maintain educational documentation
  • Supervise classroom support staff and effectively utilize team members' skills and strengths
  • Utilize trauma-informed and behaviorally focused interventions to support student success
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and required trainings
  • Assist with supervision of students during assigned activities and transitions
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Colorado Teaching License or eligibility to obtain one
  • Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
  • Experience working with students experiencing behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges
  • Knowledge of special education processes, IEP development, and educational compliance requirements
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in therapeutic, alternative, or day treatment educational settings
  • Experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum
  • Experience implementing trauma-informed educational practices
  • Experience supporting students with significant behavioral or mental health needs
Physical Requirements
  • Must be at least 23 years of age
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and 20 pounds overhead
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to utilize stress-management and crisis-response techniques
  • Valid Colorado driver's license or ability to obtain one with an acceptable motor vehicle record

Applicants must successfully complete all required background screenings in accordance with Colorado Department of Human Services regulations, including criminal history checks, fingerprinting, abuse and neglect clearances, and any additional state-specific requirements. Direct care staff must also complete a health evaluation or physical examination prior to employment.
