Physical Education Teacher

St. Paul's Catholic School, Jacksonville Beach

Reports to: Principal

General Summary: Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Recognizes and supports the Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Works collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, exemplifying Gospel values through personal example and active participation in faith community activities.
  • Maintains physical and informational security, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
  • Works collaboratively in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Adheres to all diocesan and school policies, supporting the spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission of the school.
  • Prepares lesson plans aligned with academic goals and integrates Catholic religious curriculum.
  • Participates in planning and helping organize school religious and service activities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of academic and religious curricula, organizing learning materials to maximize engagement and motivation.
  • Establishes a classroom management approach that promotes self-direction, high standards for behavior, and effective management of inappropriate conduct.
  • Engages in continuous professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing and registered member of a Catholic parish preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certification in Physical Education/Health or eligibility for certification.
  • Maintain Professional Educator certification in Florida.
  • Obtain Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification within two years.
  • Respect and promote the mission and teachings of the Roman Catholic faith.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pass criminal background check and complete Protecting God’s Children workshop.
  • Proficient in computer technology and school-related software.
  • Flexible in assessing needs and strategies.
  • Positive, respectful, and caring attitude.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Additional Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various texts and regulations, write reports and correspondence, and present information effectively.

Mathematical skills include basic arithmetic, ratios, percentages, and graph interpretation.

Reasoning skills involve defining problems, collecting data, and drawing valid conclusions.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must lift/move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, and focus adjustment.

Working Conditions

Moderate noise level. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
