Position: Physical Education Teacher

School: Guardian Catholic School

Diocese: Diocese of St. Augustine

Office: Office of Catholic Education

Reports to: Principal

General Summary

Under the direction of the school principal, responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support and promote the Catholic mission of the school by aligning speech, actions, and instruction with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Collaborate with the principal to build a faith community, demonstrating Gospel values through personal example and active participation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy at all times.
  • Work collaboratively in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Follow diocesan and school policies, supporting the school's spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
  • Prepare lesson plans to meet academic goals, integrating Catholic religious curriculum.
  • Participate in religious and service-related activities to foster the school's faith community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of academic and religious curricula, organize learning materials, and motivate students.
  • Establish classroom management strategies that promote self-direction and positive behavior, adhering to school policies.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred (or required, depending on position).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Maintain Professional Educator certification in Florida.
  • Obtain Basic Diocesan Ministry Certification within two years.
  • Respect and promote the mission and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pass criminal background check and complete Protecting God’s Children workshop prior to employment.
  • Proficient in computer technology and school-related software.
  • Flexible in assessing needs and strategies.
  • Positive, respectful, and caring attitude.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Additional Skills
  • Language skills: Ability to interpret and present information effectively.
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic and interpret data.
  • Reasoning skills: Ability to analyze problems and draw conclusions.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk/hear. Must lift/move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, and focus adjustment.

Working Conditions
