Job Description

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking a High School Biology Teacher. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate with the appropriate teaching endorsement.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Assumes professional responsibility for the educational instruction and supervision of assigned students in accordance with the courses of study approved by the Board of Education.

• Plans a program of study and lessons that strives to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Implements a course of study that includes the identified New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standard and Cumulative Progress Indicators.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.
• Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and including positive attitudes toward learning.
• Manages the learning environment in a manner that contributes to the efficient accomplishment of both individual teaching assignments and the overall operation of the school.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports, as required.
• Guides students toward maximum achievement, appropriate actions, and decision-making by counseling with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Identifies the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists, when appropriate.
• Assists in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Attends staff meetings and serves, as appropriate, on staff committees.
• Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
• Supervises behavior in the hallways, lunchroom, and on school grounds for the safety and well-being of students, personnel, and visitors.
• Performs duties which are within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as assigned by his/her supervisor in accordance with N.J. State Law, State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Local Board of Education Policies, and contractual obligations.
• Strives to maintain awareness of current developments, interpretations of subject matter content, and methodology of teaching in the subject area (s) to which assigned.
• Demonstrates professional and personal attributes that contribute to the quality of school life.
• Maintains ethical and professional behavior in working with school personnel and other agencies.
• Performs other specific duties assigned by the administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
