Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute teacher to cover for an extended absence, delivering grade-level, standards-based instruction aligned with curriculum. The assignment runs from 9/8/2026 through 12/6/2026, with a deadline of 7/8/2026 for applications.

The role supports student learning, maintains classroom discipline, and communicates with families as needed. Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Colorado teaching license (or CDE Application Receipt for 90 days)

Responsibilities

• Deliver grade-level curriculum following district-approved standards.

• Communicate with parents/guardians to coordinate instruction and progress.

About This Job

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

What You'll Do

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
• Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

What You’ll Need

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
• Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.
• Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
• Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
