Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute teacher to deliver grade-appropriate, standard-based curriculum when the regular teacher is absent. You will align lessons to the district-approved curriculum and monitor student progress, while maintaining classroom routines and safety.

Holders of a Colorado teaching license or CDE Application Receipt may apply. A Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field is required; reside in Colorado and commit to equity and student success in all

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
  • Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

About This Job

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.
