Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute to deliver instruction when the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period. This temporary position runs August 17, 2026 to January 8, 2027, with a pay rate of $31.50 per hour.

Responsibilities include counseling students, monitoring behavior, assessing progress, preparing lessons, and communicating with families and administrators to support student achievement and equity in the classroom.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
• Valid Colorado Department of Education teaching license.
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

What You'll Do

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
• Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

What You’ll Need

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
