Job summary

Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. is seeking a Teacher for Head Start Centers to deliver developmentally appropriate preschool instruction.

This 10-month, full-time role supports low-income families and requires an Associate degree or CDA with a passion for early childhood education. The position involves planning lessons, conducting assessments, engaging families, and collaborating with staff to promote children’s readiness for school.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; CDA or equivalent.
• Knowledge of early childhood development and preschool curriculum.
• Ability to assess children’s strengths, needs, interests, and progress.
• Strong communication, writing, organizational, and computer skills.
• Valid driver’s license or state ID; background and drug screening as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that meet children’s needs, interests, and goals.
• Complete developmental assessments and maintain required anecdotal records.
• Use positive guidance strategies to support children’s confidence and social-emotional development.
• Conduct required home visits and parent-teacher conferences; share child progress with families.
• Encourage family engagement in school readiness activities and volunteer opportunities.
• Maintain confidentiality, ethics, and professionalism; ensure regular attendance.
• Attend required trainings, in-services, meetings, and adhere to program policies.
• Complete required reports and data entry according to timelines.
• Maintain credentials and comply with laws and policies.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Time Requirement Full-Time, non-exempt, 10 months

Pay Details (Subject to change)

• Level I: A.A. Degree in Early Childhood or related area and CDA or equivalent – $16.77/hour
• Level II: A.A. Degree and course work equivalent to a major relating to ECE, experience working with pre-school children, or holds a Permanent State Authorization. – $18.74/hour
• Level III: B.A. Degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to ECE with experience working with pre-school children. – $20.51/hour

Qualifications

• Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum.
• Ability to assess children’s strengths, needs, interests, and progress.
• Effective communication, writing, organizational, and basic computer skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Written and Verbal Communication skills, relate well with people, and support the needs of low-income families.
• Valid Driver’s License with safe driving record or State issued ID.
• Must pass required background and drug screening.
