Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a Part Time Remote ESOL Instructor to support adult learners at the YMCA Boston International Learning Center. The instructor will teach English classes online via Zoom and some in-person evenings, creating a welcoming, engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities include planning learner-centered lessons, tailoring content to English levels, tracking attendance and progress, and collaborating with Education and Career Advisors to support student goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Education background preferred.
  • TESOL, TEFL, TESL certificate preferred.
  • Eligible to live and work in the US.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Proficient with Google Classroom/Google Workspace and Zoom.

  • Prepare engaging, learner-centered lessons aligned with goals.
  • Customize curriculum for English proficiency levels.

Part Time Remote ESOL Instructor

Department: Education & Training

Employment Type: Part Time

Location: Education & Training Center (Boston)

Reporting To: Angela Bayona Romero

Compensation: $29.35 / hour

Description

Part-time / evening position

This role is supporting the YMCA Boston International Learning Center’s adult education programs. The instructor will teach English language classes to adult learners and create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

The position is primarily scheduled during evening hours, with some in-person teaching hours required.

The instructor will work collaboratively with program staff to support student learning, participation, and progress toward their educational and career goals.

The ideal candidate is flexible, dependable, and comfortable working with a diverse population of adult learners in both in-person and online settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach ESOL to adult small business owners of diverse linguistic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.
  • Teach courses online via Zoom.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, learner-centered lessons.
  • Customize existing curriculum to engage and meet student needs and English proficiency level.
  • Incorporate digital literacy to enhance small business growth.
  • Contextualize reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, speaking and listening skills using a business model.
  • Use Google Classroom to organize and design homework and asynchronous coursework.
  • Provide clear and explicit instructions both in writing and orally to students.
  • Communicate with students through online messaging platforms (Google Classroom).
  • Collaborate with Education and Career Advisors to ensure that all students are progressing.
  • Schedule guest speakers to enhance curriculum.
  • Survey and incorporate learner goals into coursework for a student-centered, goal oriented, participatory ESOL class.
  • Review and track goals and achievements with students and maintain student portfolios.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of attendance and student progress.
  • Outline teacher and program expectations to the students clearly at the beginning of each new unit.
  • Keep timely and accurate documentation of attendance.
  • Document and submit lesson plans in the provided format.
  • Document student progress and achievements.
  • Communicate classroom/student issues to Directors in a timely manner.
  • Participate actively in meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of program.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Education background preferred
  • TESOL, TEFL, TESLcertificate preferred
  • Eligible to live and work in the US
  • Sensitive to socio-economic and ethnic minority issues
  • Strong communication skills, inter-personal skills, and classroom management skills
  • Able to participate in paid Professional Development
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Zoom
  • Comfortable learning and using web-based file storage i.e., Google Docs, SharePoint, etc.
  • Eager to contribute to a collaborative working environment
  • Bilingual a plus
