Position Overview
In accordance with the Course Code Directory definition of support facilitation, this position provides support to students with disabilities, their general education teachers, and ESE teachers to promote inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education curriculum.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Support Facilitator shall carry out the responsibilities listed below.
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
- When serving in this role, the Support Facilitator shall not be identified or serve as the teacher of record except when teaching a specific ESE course for the entire class period or teaching an extra period beyond their ESE Support Facilitator responsibilities. When serving in a split assignment, the individual shall follow the responsibilities outlined in their assignment schedule provided by the local school administration.
- May participate in Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings.
- Support students with disabilities to enhance their achievement in general education classes through cooperative consultation and co-teaching.
- Assist with transitioning students between general education classrooms, collaborating with teachers and supporting students with disabilities.
- Provide support levels and frequency based on the needs of general educators and students.
- Arrange for alternative classroom and testing accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Develop, adapt, and assist in creating curriculum and test materials to meet the needs of teachers and students, including standards-based instruction and modified curriculum.
- Model small group instruction for students with disabilities in general classes and pullout settings.
- Offer consultation services to general education teachers on best practices and differentiated instructional strategies tailored to individual students according to their IEPs.
- Document services provided as outlined on the IEP using the district’s electronic management system.
- Prepare quarterly progress reports for students on their caseloads.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress towards IEP goals through consistent data collection.
- Perform all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Stay updated with current developments, literature, and technical information related to the role.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and policies.
- Follow federal, state, and School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School Principal or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Certification by the State of Florida in any area of Exceptional Student Education.
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessments, and accommodations/modifications for ESE students.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, parents, and ESE staff in both academic and non-academic settings.
- Effective communication skills for cooperative consultation.
- Knowledge of various teaching methodologies.
- Proficiency in relevant technology skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience working with students with disabilities.
SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS - Frequency, Contact, Purpose
Provide support and consultation to general education teachers and students with disabilities, as identified through each student’s IEP.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits are aligned with the district’s compensation plan. The work year and hours are established by the School Board.
