New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks a part-time Teacher Assistant/Tutor for the NJ GEAR UP/College Bound program. The role supports students in mathematics, reading, and writing, and maintains records and prepares students for college-level expectations.
The position operates year-round with specific schedules during the Academic Year and Summer Sessions; requires a state-mandated background check; collaboration with instructors is essential to student success.
The Teacher Assistant/Tutor demonstrates an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the New Jersey GEAR UP/College Bound program. Employment and continued employment are contingent upon successfully passing the State-mandated criminal background check. Teacher Assistants/Tutors are key members of the academic team, working collaboratively with program instructors to provide academic support that helps students succeed and prepares them for college-level expectations. The program operates year-round during the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions (July through mid-August). During the Academic Year, classes are held Monday through Thursday (with occasional Fridays) from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and/or 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with 20 Saturday sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. School-day schedules may be adjusted based on participating schools. Summer Sessions are currently held for up to six weeks, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday events. Hours may be adjusted as needed.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
