Responsibilities

  • Provide grade-level mathematics instruction that prepares students for success in high school and college.
  • Integrate reading and writing skills into mathematics instruction.
  • Assist students in developing communication, study, time management, and test-taking skills.
  • Help students build confidence in mathematics while strengthening problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Prepare students for state-mandated assessments (PARCC, PSAT, SAT, ACT) through development of mathematical skills.
  • Attend all required staff development and training sessions.
  • Submit typed lesson plans in a timely manner.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the NJ GEAR UP/College Bound curriculum aligned with the New Jersey Common Core Standards.

This position supports students through academic instruction during year-round programming, including the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions (July through mid-August). This requisition represents four to six instructor positions, depending on program needs and available hours. During the Academic Year, classes are held Monday through Thursday (with occasional Fridays) from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and/or 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with 20 Saturday sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. School-day schedules may be adjusted based on participating schools. Summer Sessions are currently held for up to six weeks, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday events.

Essential Functions

  • Create a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement, self-motivation, and academic achievement.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and student files.
  • Assist with the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement assessments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications
  • Certification in the core subject area of Mathematics.
  • Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students is preferred.
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be waived where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience that specifically prepares the candidate for success in the position.
Compensation

$40/hour

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
